1. How does our program differ from other schools? Classes at Vista Preparatory School are no larger than six students per class. In addition, our students have tutorials on a one-to-one basis either to provide them with support or enrichment. Academic foundations are built into the program to provide our students with solid skills and the study techniques that are necessary to succeed. 2. What about your curriculum? How will you determine my child's progress? Both in September and May of each School Year, our students in all grades are tested to identify their reading and math levels. Our curriculum has been approved by the School Committee of the Town of Andover. 3. Will my child be prepared to pass the Massachusetts Comprehensive Assessment Exam or the Secondary School Aptitude Test? In the seventh and eighth grades, our students will participate in classes that will help them not only to strengthen their ability to prepare for examinations, but also to improve their skills to take notes and to write papers. Students will also be required to study specific vocabulary to increase their ability to understand reading selections, to answer the questions that follow, and to form analogies. Mathematical Concepts from Curriculum Frameworks will be reviewed as well. 4. Where is Andover? What resources are available to these students? Andover is approximately twenty-five miles northwest of Boston and is very close to Routes 93 and 495. Historically, it was a manufacturing city and now welcomes people and businesses from all parts of the globe. It is also the home of Phillips Academy. The Addison Gallery of American Art, located on the campus of Phillips Academy, is open to the public. They frequently have exhibits that engage our students, such as Models as Muse, the Addison's collection of Ship Models. In addition, their music department offers many plays and musical concerts that are available to all. Further, Merrimack College and the Brooks School in nearby North Andover also provide a wealth of resources that are available to our students.
